Interview with Jay Gomes

PirateCrew.com All you need to know about NJ Hoops' Jay Gomes you can gather from hearing him talk about the player that the touted New Jersey high school basketball evaluator believes excelled beyond his rankings.
It isn't a Top-10 kid playing in the NBA. It isn't a kid that he thought would be a solid role player in a high-major program that became a star. His name is Jason Westrol, a 6-foot-3 guard out of Manasquan High School.
Most will not recognize the name, and that isn't a surprise because Westrol went on to become a star at the Division II level at Bentley University where he was a multi-time All-American and the 2010 National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II National Player of the Year.
Gomes says he believed Westrol was a low Division I recruit, however the player received no attention from the Division I level and opted to commit early to Bentley. "If he waited he would have gotten an offer," Gomes said of Westrol, who is now playing professionally in Europe.
It is that level of dedication and attention paid to the different levels of basketball that separate Gomes from most talent evaluators.
