Interview of Patrick Auda

After a year playing collegiate basketball for Seton Hall University, Patrik Auda quickly saw how the season abroad had benefited him while playing on the Czech Republic team that competed in the World University games in China last month.

"I think the biggest difference was that I was much stronger than the other guys," said Auda, a 6'9" 225 lb forward who started all eight games in the tournament and finished play with team-high averages of 15.2 points and 7.5 rebounds. "I think it is because over here we lift in the weight room three or four times a week. We really spend a lot of time to get bigger and stronger because in the US the basketball is really physical, especially in the Big East. When I got home to the Czech Republic, the guys are not used to going to the weight room that many times and they all looked really skinny compared to me. I felt that also in the games and when we practiced. I would drive to the basket but unlike at Seton Hall where I expected hits on both sides there was a free lane to go to."
